First Excursion On the Zodiacs
July 2 - foggy morning followed by beautiful sunshine -
Igutsait Fjord
We had a wonderful day which started with a foggy morning but finished with a beautiful sunny day! We had a morning briefing focused on the helicopter operations and followed by another briefing about Greenland.
Around noon we broke thru and saw the sun and soon after the ice appeared. It was a few hours later that we finally saw Greenland!
The low mountains appeared out of the fog and everyone got excited. We were all out on deck taking a million pictures and videos. We had a briefing about our plans after lunch and around 3 we entered the fjord where we wanted to do our excursion.
Around 4 the zodiacs were ready to go. We went down in groups to head out to a shore excursion. This was our first zodiac excursion so everyone was learning. We put on our muck boots and our yellow jackets and our waterproof pants and our warm gloves and our warm hats. Then the we were onto the zodiacs and heads across smooth seas to the landing.
I It was a smooth landing followed by a walk in snow then onto rock and low tundra with tiny flowers. It was a beautiful place with rock cliffs all around with snow in the hills. We had a wonderful hike around a small lake fed by snow melt. We climbed up the hill to see the surrounding area. The finally back down to the landing area to motor back to the ship. It was a wonderful first excursion!
We had a great ‘bar talk’ around 9 PM by Colin who is from Scotland. He talked about his adventures in his early 20s as he traversed the Atlantic several times in a sailboat. He started as crew and nearly died several time. Then he graduated to captain and again he traversed thru a hurricane and also died. It was a great talk with pictures to match.

Beautiful! Love the pictures.
